The chiseled surface is the defining detail - horizontal bands of rough-hewn marble running the full height of
each holder, cut to leave the stone broken and irregular between each layer. A carved opening at the top receives the taper. Two holders, one taller than the other, both turned from solid white marble.
On a dining table set for a late dinner, the two holders sit near the center - tapers lit, the taller one casting light down across the chiseled bands while the shorter holds its own shadow. The rough marble catches the flame differently at each tier, the broken stone picking up light in fragments.
